THE BRIEF
Seven letters in red ink
described her death. In 1989.
Bandra, the night before a convent school's centenary fair. The principal is found drowned in the disused pool, and in her office drawer sit seven red-ink letters dug up three weeks earlier with her batch's time capsule. They describe the pool, the night water and the red dupatta floating on it.
The city calls it a story she finished. Inspector Pereira thinks the drawer was too neat, and hands you fifteen pieces to read forward, then back.
